Émile-François ROUSSEAU (1927-2010) - Lot 91
Émile-François ROUSSEAU (1927-2010) Jean Moulin (1899-1943) Bronze medal with brown patina. On the front: a portrait of Jean Moulin with a scarf and the inscription Jean Moulin. On the back: a wolf caught in a trap and the words And die without speaking. Bears the monogram ER on the front. D. 14 cm Emile Rousseau joined the steel section of the École Boulle in 1941, then Henri Dropsy's engraving workshop at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris in 1945. He won the First Grand Prix de Rome in 1957. His career was rewarded when he joined the Monnaie de Paris from 1974 to 1994. Back from Rome, he created a medal portrait of the famous Resistance fighter in 1965, which he reused for the 5 franc coin in 1993. The reverse was inspired by Alfred de Vigny's apologue La mort du loup (The Death of the Wolf), published in 1843, to pay tribute to the heroic courage shown by Jean Moulin.
