VIENNA, 18th century, circa 1765-1770 SET OF FIVE SMALL porcelain dishes with openwork edges imitating basketry, decorated in gold cameo in the center with the initials MA. They are surrounded by a garland of flowers intersecting with a chain with gold combs and inside some links with purple background held by consoles with blue squares surrounded by gold. Gold fillet on the edges and the openwork. Marked in blue on the reverse. Painter Johann Daffinger. Chips on one and very slight wear. D. 25 cm Cf: A pair of soup plates with the same decoration sold at Christie's London on December 8, 2003, n°83. It was thought that this service was commissioned for Queen Marie-Antoinette of France, but the Manufacture has no evidence of this commission.
