H. 48 cm with black marble base from Belgium H. 13 cm PROVENANCE : Family of the artist. EXHIBITION: - Robert Wlérick, études, esquisses et dessins, Mont-de-Marsan, musée Despiau-Wlérick, 24 June-5 September 1994; Paris, musée Bourdelle, 1 February-14 May 1995; Poitiers, musée Sainte-Croix, 6 October-10 December 1995; Chambéry, musée des beaux-arts, 1 February-30 April 1996, Paris-Musées, 1994, our bronze is repr. p. 21 and listed under cat. 47, p. 65 RELATED LITERATURE : Danièle Gutmann, Robert Wlérick (1882-1944), Paris, Musée Rodin, 31 March-28 June 1982; Mont-de-Marsan, Musée Despiau-Wlérick, 17 July-26 September 1982, Éditions Musée Rodin, 1982, model listed under cat. 88, p.82 ; Rosenbaum attended evening classes given by Robert Wlérick at the Ecole des arts appliqués à l'industrie. The sculptor was unable to complete the portrait of his pupil, who was deported and died in 1942. Rosenbaum is credited with numerous photographs of Wlérick's work.
