Jacques Joseph LECURIEUX (1801-1867) The Pelisson Spider Oil on panel. Signed lower right. 18 x 24 cm Pélisson, Fouquet's secretary, imprisoned in the Bastille in 1661, had become familiar with a spider that ran at his signal. A guard having voluntarily killed the spider, King Louis XIV learned of the fact and imposed a punishment on this zoocidal murderer.
