Raymond MARTIN (1910-1992) Woman with a... - Lot 112 - Crait + Müller
Raymond MARTIN (1910-1992) Woman with a bath, circa 1940 Bronze print with light brown patina. Signed Raymond Martin and bears the stamp of the foundryman C Valsuani Cire perdue and the number 2/8. H. 30 cm LITERATURE IN RAPPORT : - Michel Faré, Raymond Martin at the Monnaie de Paris, cat. Exp. Monnaie de Paris, March-May 1985; - René Héron de Villefosse, Yves Gandon, André George, René Durey, André Planson, Raymond Martin, Cat. Exp. Paris, Musée Galliera, 22 January to 22 February 1960. Through this work, Raymond Martin, a student of Jules Jouant at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art and a faithful disciple of Robert Wlérick, pays homage to the widely exploited theme of bathers in a classical attitude. The originality of this model lies in the face devoid of features and the way the woman holds the linen covering her lower body. The sculptor thus emphasizes the inner strength of sujet : a woman of her time revealing herself to the viewer.
