This bronze made by Denys Puech and entitled La Pensée is the reduction of the polychrome marble group presented by the latter at the Salon des Artistes Français of 1902. A bronze version of this group was commissioned by the City of Paris to decorate the forecourt of the Cour d'Honneur of the Sorbonne. The project was then abandoned by the sculptor.
Trained in the workshops of Alexandre Falguière and Henri Chapu, Denys Puech won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1884. He participates actively in many Salons des Artistes Français, for which he is a member of the committee and jury of sculpture. Crowning his career, he was appointed director of the Villa Medici in Rome from 1921 to 1933.
