Haardt, Georges-Marie - Audouin-Dubreuil, Louis - Le Raid Ci - Lot 346
Haardt, Georges-Marie - Audouin-Dubreuil, Louis - Le Raid Citroën. The first crossing of the Sahara by car. From Touggourt to Timbuktu by the Atlantis. Introduction by Mr. André Citroën. Paris, Plon-Nourrit, 1924. In-4, paperback, filled cover, uncut, grey suedette folder and cloth spine, slipcase. Spine slightly faded - XVII, 241 pp, [1 p.], [2 ff.], 13 out-of-text photographs, 16 illustrations by Boutet de Monvel, 171 in-text photographs, 2 folding maps in colour. First edition. Uncut copy. Famous trans-Saharan mission and first automobile expedition organized by the manufacturer André Citroën (it was followed by the Croisière Noire (Central Africa), then the Croisière Jaune (Beirut-Peking). The raid penetrated the mysterious Hoggar, where the mythical Atlantis is said to have been found and where the memory of Antinea floats, continued in the anguishing Tanezfrout, the land of thirst, to reach Timbuktu, the sublime, not yet ravaged by our contemporaries. The caravan crossed almost unviolated territories. The two authors give a lively and thrilling account of their expedition.
