Colette - Dignimont. - La Vagabonde / L'Entrave. Paris, Morn - Lot 246
Colette - Dignimont. - La Vagabonde / L'Entrave. Paris, Mornay, 1926-1929. 2 volumes in-8, bound in old pink half-maroquin with corners, for La Vagabonde, fawn for L'Entrave, cold-stamped fillets on the boards, smooth spines with art deco mosaic decoration, covers and spines preserved, gilt heads, shaped, bordered and lined slipcases (Rel. R. Kieffer) - 333 pp., [1 f.], frontispiece and 2 out-of-text illustrations, 47 in-text vignettes, caps. Edition at 1130 numbered copies, 1/892 on Rives (n° 912) for La Vagabonde ; 269 pp., [1 f.], frontispiece and 2 off-text illustrations, 45 vignettes and caps. Edition at 1132 numbered copies, 1/844 on Rives (n° 262) for L'Entrave. Dignimont, whom Colette called "Dig", was the most fertile of her illustrators. One can easily recognize Colette in the illustrations he gave for La Vagabonde. Renée Nérée, the heroine of the two novels, is the author's romantic double, especially in this first novel where she is, like Colette, a novelist converted to the stage. Good copies of these two books illustrated with great truth.
