Robert Wlerick (1882-1944) The Offering,... - Lot 83 - Crait + Müller
Robert Wlerick (1882-1944) The Offering, 1936 - 1937 Bronze proof, n°5/10 Lost wax casting Coubertin Signed : R Wlérick H. 65 ; W. 76,5 ; D. 33 cm In 1927, Wlérick had a professional model pose for a half-size sculpture (it is 65 cm high) entitled Gaby. Around 1932-1933, he reworked his work, which took the name of Offrande, and began its edition in bronze in a limited edition of ten copies. In 1936, the city of Paris ordered Raymond Escholier, curator of the Musée des Beaux-Arts du Petit Palais, to manage the orders for sculptures for the 1937 International Exhibition. When asked, Wlérick enlarged his work to human size: from then on, it was entitled Nu allongé. "Look, for example, at L'Offrande, in which he [Wlérick] unites the severe architecture of a right angle with the graceful movement of the legs, the heaviness of the torso, and the tilt of the head that invites the viewers to walk around the work and establish a kind of movement.
