In-4, in sheets, printed cover filled, publisher's folder and case in the imitation of a snake skin - [3 ff.], 70 pp. Illustrated with 13 engravings (3 double-page in colour, 9 full-page in colour and 1 full-page in black), and 54 bands by Paul Jouve engraved in black and gold on every page (following 8 repeated patterns). Typography in black and ochre. Edition at 123 numbered copies on Arches vellum, 1/110 with a suite in black (n° 73), signed by the artist and the publisher. Amazing short story by Balzac which takes place in the Egyptian desert. A lost soldier finds refuge in a cave where he manages to tame a panther. The fascination between man and beast is reciprocal and is magnificently rendered by Paul Jouve's compositions. Beautiful copy with the slipcase in perfect condition.
