Berthe MARTINIE (1883-1958). Foal at rest, circa 1925 Bronze with a brown patina. Signed Berthe Martinie. Bears the stamp of the founder C. Valsuani Cire perdue on the terrace and the number 1 ? under the signature. AM 593 S . Trained in the workshop of Ferdinand Humbert from 1906 and wife of the art critic Henri Martinie from 1913, Berthe Martinie frequented the sculptors Robert Wlerick and Jean Carton. In 1925, the Weil Gallery devoted its first exhibition to her. At the end of the twenties she devoted herself exclusively to sculpture, whose animal subjects were her predilection. She took part in many Salons (Salons d'Automne and the Tuileries) as well as in the 1937 Universal Exhibition.
