H. 42 cm BIBLIOGRAPHIE : -Robert Wlérick, exhibition at the Musée de l'Annonciade, March 26-June 20, 1994, model reproduced p. 23; -Robert Wlérick : 1882-1944, exhibition at the Rodin Museum, 1982, model listed under number 17. Robert Wlérick trained with the drawing teacher M. Morin before joining the Toulouse School of Fine Arts in 1889. He moved to Paris in 1906 where he attended free drawing classes at the École des Beaux-Arts. He admired the works of Florentine artists of the Renaissance and, renouncing academic art and avant-garde research, he recognized himself in Lucien Schnegg's circle of sculptors. Sculptor of the intimate, the artist surprises his wife here in a tender and delicate atmosphere. The spectator is attracted by the model's gesture and shares this moment of serenity. His nudes are not the expression of a canon of beauty but the will to express a quiet instantaneousness.
